3月15日に、学校設定科目「STEM for SDGs」を履修している生徒17名の生徒が、アメリカ、ミネソタ州のオワトナハイスクールの生徒と、STEMの研究成果を相互に発表しあう交流会を実施しました。オンラインで実施された本交流会では、双方の学校紹介に続き、本校の３チームによるプレゼンと、オワトナ側のプレゼンが行われました。オワトナ側のコーディネーターのThomas Meagher氏および参加した現地高校生から、鋭い指摘も含むフィードバックを受け、STEMが世界とつながるツールとなることを実感しました。
On 15 Mar, 17 of our students participating in the "STEM for SDGs" program shared their STEM research results with students from Owatonna High School in Minnesota, USA over an online exchange meeting. In addition to learning from the presentations by both sides, the students gained a better understanding of each other’s school and student life. Mr. Thomas Meagher, the STEM coordinator of the Owatonna, and his students who participated in the exchange provided valuable and constructive feedback to our students. Through this exchange, the “STEM for SDGs” program has realized its goal of providing a platform for students to connect with the world.

- 僕は本日の交流以前は、ミネソタ州について全然知らなかったのですが、交流を通して、詳しく知ることができ、とても勉強になりました。発表では、オウサマクイナという鳥が年々減少傾向にあることを初めて知り、私たちも保護活動を積極的に行っていかねばならないという危機感を感じました。もしアメリカへ行く機会があれば一度は見てみたいと思いました。
Before today's exchange, I did not know much about Minnesota. At the presentation, I learned for the first time that the number of the King rails, native to Minnesota, is decreasing year by year, and I felt a sense of crisis that we too must actively carry out conservation activities. If I had the chance to go to America, I would like to see this magnificent bird.
- 今まで英語でプレゼンをする機会はありましたが、実際にアメリカの人に向けて英語で話すのは少し緊張しました。正直私は全然英語を聞きとることができませんでした。しかし、プレゼンの中で画像だけでなく動画もあったのでとても分かりやすかったです。
I have had opportunities to give presentations in English, but I was a little nervous about giving one in front of an American audience. To be honest, I could not understand English well. However, with the ample use of images and videos, it was very easy to understand the presentation by the American high school student.
- 今日は実際にアメリカの先生、生徒とzoomを使って交流して、英語で発表ができました。また、ミネソタ州の人の英語スライドを見て、自分たちが今後英語スライドを作る時の参考になったと思いました。
Today, I had the chance to actually interact and give a presentation in English to American teachers and students using Zoom. Seeing the English slides by the student from Minnesota, I thought her work would be a good reference for us when we make English presentation slides in the future.
- ミネソタという遠く離れた場所でも、これからの世界について考えて活動をしている人がいるということを実感することができました。予定していた発表全てを聞くことができなかったのは残念ですが、自分たちの視野を広げる良い機会になりました。
I was able to realize that there are people who actively think about the future of the world even in a place as far away as Minnesota. It's a pity that we couldn't hear all the presentations as scheduled, but it was a good opportunity to broaden our horizons.
